The period key is the key with the small . on it in many keyboard layouts; in a North American English layout, it is two keys to the left of the right Shift key, and is on the bottom row of many numeric keypads. It is the key you used to type the . in your post.
no, 'period' is definitely only used in american english to refer to 'full stop'. so if someone only has english as a second language, and only british english at that, then 'period' really doesn't mean anything. studying the logic manuals is hard enough if it's in your second language, so I can totally understand the need to check in at this forum and get clarification.
Considering we're referring to a key command that is rather common on the Mac (command-period is commonly used in every Mac app to halt operations), the terminology should be rather clear in this case.
There's plenty of reference in the Mac help (keyboard shortcuts).
