Canon MX922 offline on my Macbook Pro

I just purchased the Canon MX922 printer and set it up on my Macbook Pro. I had to use the downloaded software because my disc slot is broken. I set it up to print wirelessly using the WPS button on my router. Success. But when I tried to print something on my mac, it said 'printer offline.' I troubleshooted on the actual printer and it showed me that everything was connected and good to go. It determined that there must be a firewall preventing the computer and printer from talking. BUT, when I checked my firewall on my Mac, it was already off, so that obviously wasn't the problem. I don't have a USB connection, and even if I did, I still want to figure out how to print wirelessly! Please help.

The Canon PIXMA MX922 is an Apple AirPrint-enabled printer. No USB connection is required and no drivers are required. Please read Connect an AirPrint printer to a Wi-Fi network - Apple Support.

Sometimes, you have to restart your wireless router or access point for an AirPrint-enabled device to be recognized on your Mac. To do that just unplug your router from its power receptacle, wait a moment or two, and then plug it back in.

If you can't get it to work, I suggest "resetting the printing system" according to macOS Sierra: Reset the printing system, followed by adding it again as an AirPrint device: macOS Sierra: Add or remove a printer.

For scanning documents, please read Mac Basics: Using a scanner - Apple Support.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the MX922:) I love this printer but it took me a while to get it to work. Go here https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/printers/inkje t-multifunction/mx-series-inkjet/mx922 and download all the drivers not just the software. Including the scan driver. Once I did that it set up ok. It installs in your system preferences as an MX920.

Once in a while I would lose contact with the printer, even though it looked like it was still there, as would my son on his HP windows machine. Just happens. I found when this happens go into your printer setup on the MX922 control panel and do a connect to wifi with the WPS control. Once I did that it worked again. Doesn't happen often just every so often.

As a side note I buy non Canon ink on Amazon for a lot less as I use a lot of ink saves a few dollars. Good luck

This worked like a charm! All I did was follow the online instructions for AirPrint and I'm all set to scan. I've had this printer/scanner for awhile but I upgraded to Sierra and the drivers weren't working 100%. I had no idea about AirPrint or the benefits it provides, so Thanks for the much needed upgrade and info. I'm all for scanning without the headache and time wasted using and installing those pesky drivers. Thanks!!
