How to find out my ISP name.

Hey!

I've got my internet connection down and since I'm a tenant in the flat I live, I don't know the name of the ISP - who I am suppose to contact for troubleshooting.

So I was thinking, is there any way to get an external IP address that my MacBook used in the past, so then I can track my ISP?

Or do you know any other way to find out the ISP without having a working internet connection?

Thanks y'all!

Ps. The owner of the apartment is on holidays at the moment and I can't get hold on him, plus we don't receive the internet bills.

hi, i'm by no means a pro with iMac networking - i know allot about linux networking.

go to dock or launchpad and open Terminal and type:

try:

# route print

OR

# netstat -nr

(your route table is printed with network names of who your connected to and the inet address)

OR

# ifconfig <press Enter>

(result - a list of addresses being used to access various routes)

# whois (address from above)

(result: the internet name of the ISP, if you chose the right address from ifconfig)

((note this won't work if your going through a "building proxy server" (a proxy is a computer between you and the ISP which can add or delete anything going to or from you and the internet. they are used for "caching" but may also used for spying - although be sure gov. can do than anyways))

DONE

# exit

or just use gui buttons and say "yes" to Terminate is almost the same thing
