FaceTime HD camera available in FaceTime but not PhotoBooth

iMac 5K: the FaceTime Camera works in FaceTime but not PhotoBooth. The screen is black, the take photo button red, and Camera menu items are grey (one of them is "No camera available".

Presumably not a hardware issue, but a bug in PhotoBooth. I have tried deleting the com.apple.photobooth.plist in ~/Library/Preferences, and the corresponding items in ~/Library/Containers to no avail.

Is it possible to download a fresh copy of PhotoBooth? I can't see it in AppStore.

PhotoBooth 8.0 (812); Sierra 10.12.2.

Greetings Chris Bunch,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It seems like the Photo Booth app is not recognizing the camera on the iMac. Since the issue is isolated to one application there are a few things that can be done. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting. Photo Booth is not available to be reinstalled from the App Store. To reinstall an app that came preinstalled on the Mac I would recommend you read this article, it explains how to reinstall macOS.

You can install macOS over the same version or earlier version, without removing your data, but to be safe you should always make a backup of your data.

Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac

Take care.
