Can't Connect to WiFi Outside Home, ios 10.2.1

For the past week I have not been able to connect to any wifi that I would normally except for in my home. It started on ios 10.2 and even now after I updated last night to 10.2.1 I've done pretty much everything I can think of to solve this problem:

Forget Network

Reset Network

Hard Reboot

Turn on airplane mode then restart

Reset Router

Did these multiple times and after speaking with Apple Support yesterday they said the only other thing I could try would be to reset to factory settings. I also have a Mac computer so I backed up my phone to the computer. When I went to reset it to factory settings I was prompted that I would have to update to ios 10.2.1 in order for the reset. Did that and everything was done with not issues although it took forever. I wasn't able to test everything until this morning when I went in to work because everything works fine at home. To no avail I reset my phone and still nothing. I also use WiFi at the gym but I can't exactly ask them to reset their router. Haven't been there yet to see how it works with them. From what I am reading this is a bug happening to a lot of people but I have yet to find anyone having the same issue as I am that wasn't able to solve it after trying the above steps. Is this something I'm going to just have to wait for Apple to get off their *** and do another update to fix the bugs or am I missing something? My next step is to take it in to my local Apple retailer but don't want to do that if I don't have to.

I had the same symptom. I fixed it with Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

No need to reset anything more. Something about the way they're storing wifi credentials must have changed in this release, so you have to re-enter your wifi passwords after doing this.

I accidentally flagged anonyme4321's post "Helpful," hoping to find a way to mark it "Not Helpful."

Can we please get away from "take it to the Apple store" as the second option after the obvious self-help options fail? Not everyone lives within reasonable driving distance of an Apple store. I'm 3 hours away from the nearest one, and I'm not exactly in the boonies.

The last two times I was forced to take something to an Apple store, I had to take time out of a vacation in a large city to slide it in. In one case, it meant cramming an iMac into the car along with all of the luggage because I was going to need it for 1 hour during the week's visit, so it was constantly in the way with all the packing and unpacking. And then when I got that iMac to the Apple store, they couldn't help me, so they dispatched a tech to my office about a week after I got back.

I'm sure it's great to live close to an Apple store, and for you all, that's a fine solution, but please please please let's not make it the only good option!

I do agreenwith you on this. The closest actual apple store for me is over an hour away. I had to take mine to a retailer who works with apple yesterday. I habe to revert back to factory settings and set up as a new phone instead of putting the backup I created back on there. They said whatever is going on could have applied to the backup as well. Will try this on the weekend and seewhat happens. They said of that does not work it is anhardware issue and I would need to purchase a new phone. Luckily the person who helped me was noce enough in saying that ot wouldn't be worth buying a new phone over as long as my wifi works at home.

It is your antenna, for some reason major updates bring these issues to surface not to say they caused it. I work on phones and people treat them crap and expect them to run perfect. I don't blame Apple for people getting phones wet the wondering why something wouldn't work after and update. Just saying hardware and software work together it's not always the software :)
