Possible to use APPLE LOOPS in Ableton Live?

I cant seem to find them.......I locate them in the finder but they don't show up on the BROWSER in Live.

Any ideas?

Yes you can, but they don't show up in the Live Browser.

You can drag and drop (from the finder) an apple loop into the an audio clip in Live. Live will then convert the apple loop to a *.asd file, that will be used in Live.

BeeJay, if you don't have Live, or aren't familar with it, maybe you shouldn't comment on it. 😟

I do own Live, as a matter of fact, but I don't have the most recent versions (I use Live 4), and have not seen Apple loops mentioned in the docs or in fact, I've never seen apple loops mentioned in conjunction with Live at all.

Maybe it's something that was added in recent versions, maybe not.

In any case, I did not say "Live does not load Apple loops", I said "I doubt it", which means that I did not know for sure. I thought that was fairly obvious from my post. I am happy to be enlightened or proved wrong, as your info has done so.

In fact, Apple Loops are not mentioned at all in the Live6 manual, that I can see.

I suspect then, that they are not shown in the browser because of this (ie, no direct Apple Loop support, as I suggested.)

Now, if you (as 'smurf suggests) can drag/drop Apple Loops into live clips suggests to me that Live doesn't understand the Apple Loop format, but OSX effectively presents the data to Live as unsliced audio, which Live autowarps accordingly, irrespective of any slicing info in the Apple loop.

So that would mean that yes you can use Apple Loops in live, but not as apple loops, and my original info of suggesting you'd probably just have to use the raw audio is the case, except OSX or Live means that you don't have to convert the files themselves, the computer will do it for you (which is kinda nice!)

Of course, none of that is in the manual and I haven't tested it, so it's all educated guesswork...

No problem seeing and using them over here. They're just aif files as far as I can tell, although they probably have something "extra" embeded in them for Garageband/Logic. I've been using them in Live 6, then I put them on an external drive and I use them with Windows Cubase and other applications. I have the Jam Packs Remix Tools, World Music, and the iLife stuff, all working fine in everything.

Well heres the thing, they are AIFF files right? So, Shouldn't LIVE see them in the BROSWER? When I do a view in FOLDER (APPLE), I can not see them within LIVE, so how can AIFF files NOT show up?

I think I'm a tad bit lost on this.

Thanks

You should be able to see them from the Live Browser. I don't use the Live browser for previewing Apple Loops, because there is a little pause while the conversion (the creation of the *.asd file) and it's a little annoying.

The *.aif will show up in Live's browser.

Use the Live's browser to navigate to their location (I believe the default is: /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Apple Loops/)

You should be able to see them.
