MacOS Sierra Git Download Error

I'm running MacOS Sierra version 10.12.2 and attempting to install Git & GitHub Desktop, however, I continue to get the following error:

“'git-2.10.1-intel-universal-mavericks.dmg' and 'GitHub Desktop' is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash."

I researched this issue and it appears that Apple's Security (Gatekeeper) options on Sierra may be causing this problem. However, I do not wish to disable Gatekeeper to load Git. Please advise if there are any available alternatives to get Git & GitHub Desktop loaded. Thank you kindly!

Thank you, I really appreciate your help. However, I am still having problems. I used the command you gave me in the Terminal app; I have the latest version of Xcode; yet when I attempted to install the Command Line Tools from the developer.apple.com and I received the same error (please see below).

Why do I continue to get this especially considering the source on this particular download is Apple? Also, since MacOS Sierra doesn't have the "Anywhere," option under Security Settings, how do I go about downloading? Any additional insight you're able to offer would be helpful. Thank you!

The '"X.dmg" is damaged...' error message is not coming from Gatekeeper (Security Settings) complaining about the origin of the file. It means what it says, i.e. the X.dmg file that you downloaded is incomplete or corrupted. Since it's happened with two (large) files downloaded from different locations my guess is that you either have an issue with your network connection breaking or a faulty disk. As a last resort, It's possible, but unlikely, that your installation of macOS Sierra is corrupt.
