Can one change the size of the scroll bar in FCP 10.3.1?

In previous versions of Final Cut Pro, e.g. 10.1.3, one could adjust the magnification of the scroll bar with a control bottom right. This was very convenient for moving the cursor to part of the timeline and then expanding it to home in on particular clips for editing. I've not found this feature in the current version FCP 10.3.1. Does it still exist and if so, how does one access it? I'm using the program on a mid 2012 MacBook Pro 13" G5 with OS El Capitan 10.11.6.

Dear Karsten,

Thanks for your reply, which I just spotted. I did receive independently from Apple Support at tinyurl.com/zjxjtr7 an article titled "Final Cut Pro X: Zoom and scroll in the timeline.” That listed many options but nothing quite like the one previously available, which I found most convenient.

However, I was delighted that you’d included “pinch'n zoom on a trackpad” as an option in your list, which wasn’t mentioned in the Apple Support article.

I tried it and it works GREAT! It’s even more convenient and elegant than the previous feature that’s now missing. Thanks so much!

[Below is the previous control that I used a lot and missed in the new version of FCP.]

I hate to do this, Karsten, because your advice provided the solution. However, I just rechecked the e-mail reply I got from Apple Support and at the very end is a link to a page titled "Final Cut Pro X: Multi-Touch trackpad gestures" at http://tinyurl.com/hnyhchw.

It lists the following 6 finger movements, including the one you described. I've pasted it below. But I still appreciate your help, so thanks. Sincerely, Martin Pion

Gesture

Action

Pinch (two-finger): Pinch closed with two fingers to zoom out of the timeline or window. Pinch open to zoom in to the timeline or window.

Double-tap (two-finger): Double-tap with two fingers to zoom the timeline so that all the clips fill the visible part of the timeline.

Swipe (two-finger): Swipe with two fingers to scroll left, right, up, or down in the timeline.

Click (two-finger): Click once to open the shortcut menu.

Drag (three-finger): Drag a selection rectangle over the timeline or event clips you want to select, or drag to move selected clips.

Swipe (three-finger): Swipe left or right to move the playhead to the previous or next edit point. Swipe up or down to move the playhead to the beginning or end of the timeline.

Note: To enable this gesture, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Trackpad, then click More Gestures. Click the “Swipe between pages” pop-up menu and choose “Swipe with three fingers.” Enabling this gesture automatically disables the “Drag (three-finger)” gesture described above.

wow, that is a 'first' - I know better than Apple! 😝

Common fact for users of the MagicTrackPad, FCPX is made for gestures, another example:

'swipe' thru the timeline - no faster way known.

Bold characters control whole edits by gestures:

and for the Tina Fey Movie 'WhiskeyTangoFoxtrott' they custom-built their own 'Magic Controller'
