macOS 10.12.3 Mail quit grayed out.

About two months ago Mail started having issues.

If mail was the background app then I could not quit the app when bringing the app active. Quit would be greyed out. If I left Mail open and the computer went to sleep when I brought it back to wake the quit menu would be greyed out.

I know I can force quit but I need to do this every time.

What have I done to try and fix this issue...

Delected mail.plist.

Deleted Mail container

Deleted Mail V2, V3 folders

None of this has fixed the issues and this issues does not seem to impact Mail on my iPad.

I have done a complete Nuke and Pave. Reinstalled macOS from USB boot drive and copied only documents folder, downloads folder from backup.

I am right back to the same greyed out quit menu and have to force quit.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

A Safe Mode boot deletes system caches that might help.

To start up in safe mode:

  1. Start or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key. The white Apple logo appears on your display. If you don't see the Apple logo, learn what to do.
  2. Release the shift key when you see the login window. If your startup disk is encrypted with FileVault, you might be asked to log in twice: once to unlock the startup disk, and again to log in to the Finder.

To leave safe mode, restart your Mac without pressing any keys during startup.

Then try the Mail app.

Neither solution seems to have worked.

Here are some screen shots to further define the issue.

This is what I see when I bring Mail to the front as the active application. I get no message window.

In this shot we have a greyed out quit. I opened the message window, it does not appear when making Mail the front application and mail is not updated until you force quite and open Mail.

We have to force Quit Mail. There is no indication that Mail is not responding.

This is what I see in the Console when doing a search for Mail in System.log.

Anyone offer any insight?
