Mac charger sparked, turned off laptop. Fan is at high speed.

Mac charger sparked and turned off the laptop. Now the fan is at high speed and battery life isn't visible. I've tried resetting it which didn't work. What to do?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Try resetting the SMC Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

What exactly was the "resetting"? Was it Resetting the System Management Controller? If that doesn't help you should take it to an authorized service place for testing/repair.
