How do you access the control center if swiping does not work? Is there an alternate way to access the control center? I have already shut the phone multiple times pushing the home key at the same time I shut the phone off

Yes, there is, using AssistiveTouch! On an iPhone go to System Preferences/General/Accessibility, scroll down to AssistiveTouch, switch it on by moving the slider to show green and then move down to and select the menu that lets you choose what appears in Assistive Touch on the screen. From here you can set for the control center to appear without swiping (and there are a lot of other useful functions!) There are loads of articles online telling you how to use AT far better than I can...here´s one link:
