Bootcamp Mavericks SSHD

Opened new hard drive.
Partitioned it into OSX 250Gb, My MacFiles 250Gb, Free Space 500Gb
SuperDupered a "Clean Mavericks 10.9.5" onto OSX 250Gb.

Opened BootCamp to install, ERROR MESSAGE "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition."
***?? https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203913 (among others)

I repartitioned to ONE partition OSX 1000Gb (and EFI partition) GUID Partition HFS+ (journaled)
My Disk Utility has been altered to Show ALL partitions, including normally hidden ones.

Seagate Laptop SSHD 1Tb Internal Solid State Hybrid Drive STBD1000400

Is not a normal hard drive, my suspicion is that this drive is incompatible with BootCamp on Mavericks.

Yes

The drivers for Win include "Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide.pdf"

If You Have Problems Creating a Partition

If you have problems creating a Windows partition, check the following:

  • Your Mac’s disk must be a single partition, formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
If the disk already has more than one partition, you must repartition it.

  • Your Mac’s disk must be an internal disk. You cannot use Boot Camp Assistant to install Windows on an external disk.
  • If your Mac has more than one internal disk and you want to install Boot Camp on a disk that isn’t in the first hard drive bay, remove the drives in the lower numbered bays. You can reinstall the drives after you install Boot Camp.

The reason is - BootCamp will ONLY install on internal drives. (or so it seems)

The drive I was using was firewire, 1Tb, GUID partition, 1 HFS+ (journaled)
It had Mavericks installed, booting from this drive, starting Bootcamp gave the error "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition."

The internal drive had two partitions.

The hint came not from ANY Apple documentation, but a third party website that explained if you have two internal drives Bootcamp will ask which to install on.

Software documentation, ya gotta love it.
