safari freezes when quitting

Hi,

See if deleting the Safari cache.db (database) helps.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following

~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db

Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.

Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that doesn't help, a Safe Mode boot (safely) deletes system caches that can help after upgrading to a newer OS X.

To start up in safe mode:

1. Start or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key. The white Apple logo appears on your display. If you don't see the Apple logo, learn what to do.
2. Release the shift key when you see the login window. If your startup disk is encrypted with FileVault, you might be asked to log in twice: once to unlock the startup disk, and again to log in to the Finder.

To leave safe mode, restart your Mac without pressing any keys during startup.

Then try Safari.

Uninstall ESET. It tends to interfere with the computer's operation while providing minimal to no benefit.

On the iMac, try the steps I suggested before. Safari is crashing.

Weird since I've been using this all along without problems with 4 GB RAM, now suddenly run out of RAM? Is there anything else causing the lack of RAM? Is there a way to fix it without upgrading RAM?

The main problem is lack of RAM.

You can cut back the number of startup items and internet plugins.

Tried deleting Cache.db and tried disabling plug-ins and extensions, still cannot quit, only getting the beachball everytime.

I Have the same problem! Went back to El Capitan.
