Kernel task eating my RAM

recently i had updatedUser uploaded file my MBP 13" mid 2012 into sierra.


when i check the activity monitor, it is showing that kernel memory usage took more than 1gb memory.

does anyone knows how to fix this?


i only installed app microsoft office, hotspot shield, cleanmymac, and photoshop. i deleted all of them except microsoft office and cleanmymac. please help. thank you

Hi Afitrah,


Kernel tasks occur when multiple pieces of software are running at the same time.


Try these steps to see if it helps:


  • Go to Finder > Go > Go to folder > ~/Library/Caches, ~/Library/SavedApplicationState, ~/Library/LaunchAgents
  • Clear contents within those folders but don't remove the folders
  • Restart computer
  • If issue persists run Malwarebytes: www.adwaremedic.com
