Apple Watch series 2: Scratch resistance Ion-X glass or coating

Hi, I got my Apple Watch Series 2 (Aluminum, ION-X glass) this December and within a few days of normal use (every day use, office job, running, swimming, NO maintenance stuff @home, no squash or other rough sports) the first two thin vertical scratches started to appear, the deep dent right below the middle within 5 days. About one and a half month later I think it's pretty heavily scratched considered what I do with it.

The aluminum case itself is spotless:

I checked my coats and jackets on metal buttons and zippers around the left wrist, but nothing...

I went to the Genius Bar and they looked surprised but still considered it 'cosmetical damage'. Other people I know have older ion-x watches and no wear at all. Off course it's user damage, that's without question, it's just that the watch (at least my one) seems in no way scratch resistant.

Since the rate of deterioration is so steep I wondered if there's a problem with my particular watch, the specific batch or maybe the coating.? (Especially visible in the right upper corner) Maybe something like what happend with the coating on some of the MacBookPro Retina's?

It did not fall, I didn't trip over I'm still trying to figure out if there's something specific I did...

- Is there anybody that encountered the same problems (so no special use, but a NOT very scratch resistant watch)?

- Is there a way to report this to Apple Quality Control or get it checked (the Genius only checked superficially)?

I own a lot of Apple stuff and nothing scratched as easy as the this new and 'scratch resistant watch'

So I feel a bit disappointed too... to be truly honest..

Thx for your answers!

It is possible that you have only scratched through the fingerprint-resistant, oil repellent coating. It is normal for this coating to wear away under normal use, but it may have become scratched without damaging the screen beneath.

Unless the issue is due to a manufacturing defect, cosmetic damage - including scratches - is not covered under either Apple's Limited Warranty or AppleCare+.

Apple does not offer a screen repair or replacement service for Apple Watch and Apple Watch is not user-serviceable. Your watch may instead be eligible for chargeable, out-of-warranty service.

Contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider with a view to having your watch inspected and to establish any available service options, likely timescales and cost:

Note that, whether you have scratched the screen or not, note that Apple does not recommend using cleaning products or polishing or buffing the watch with abrasives; these will wear away the coating and may also (further) scratch the display.

A good quality screen protector (of the thin film type) may be effective in obscuring or reducing the visibility of the mark, as well as in providing some measure of protection against future damage.

It is unusual. I have had my first gen since they launch April 2015 and have one tiny made minor scratch on it you cannot even see and unless angle just right. I would download the New Apple Store app on your phone and try to chat or talk with a representative and see if there are other options. Good luck
