Audio output

i have a 2011 macbook pro and i recently noticed that there is something called "digitary device' in my list of audio output settings. i'm hoping someone can tell me what this is and how to get rid of it. then i choose this option, the audio cuts out and can't be heard from anywhere.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), macOS Sierra (10.12)

Hi,

The tiny "switch" inside the headphone port is probably stuck. Try inserting and removing a 3mm plug a few times and see if it comes unstuck. Alternatively, you may use something of about that size or smaller (I don't recommend a toothpick, as it may break off). The switch is most of the way inside the jack.

I have the same issue as the OP, except the sound still comes thru my external speakers when I select it. I'm using a 2012 iMac. I plug in external speakers to the headphone jack and they show up as "headphones" in system prefs., and when I unplug them I see "internal speakers" on the list. "digitary device" remains there on the list the whole time. Maybe it's something to do with Audio Hijack Pro or AH 3, both of which I have installed?
