How to “see” Ink Supply Level with Epson Stylus CX74000

Epson Stylus CX74000. This is not a current model Epson printer. Maybe with a newer model the printer driver works better with Mac?

So, you see the flashing light on the printer and you know one or more of your cartridges is low. (If the light was solid… one of your cartridges would be completely empty and you would be unable to print) You wish to know which color will need to be replaced soon.

System preferences/ printers and scanners/ options and supplies…

You have to choose between four tabs; General, Options, Supply levels and utility. Seems pretty simple doesn't it? You click on supply levels. Instead of seeing the expected graphical representation of each cartridge depicting the amount of ink remaining… you get the “helpful" message: “information not available.”

Luckily you are reading this post so here's how are you really have to do it. 😉

System preferences/ printers and scanners/ options and supplies…

You click on the "utility" tab!

Next, you click the “Open printer utility" button.

You now have the window that you need. Titled: “Epson printer utility 4.”

The top section tells you for example… Ink Low… Cyan.

Unfortunately, there is no graphic showing the status of the cartridges that are not low. So you do not know if they are 1/2 full 3/4 full, etc.

It's better than nothing. Is not intuitive. And not a proper way in the 21st century, for a computer/printer to inform the user about ink supply.

If anyone has a better method, please post.
