iTunes keeps playing sync sound effects during music playback

I'm running iTunes 12.5.4.42 on a Windows 10 PC. On the same wifi network, I also have an iPhone 6S and an iPad, both running iOS 10.2.1. Wifi sync is enabled.

I just bought a new album in iTunes, and am trying to enjoy it. However, during playback from my PC in iTunes, iTunes keeps playing the sync sound effect over and over again. It sounds at least once every five minutes. This is very distracting during music playback so it's rendered my iTunes unusable for playing music. I am not touching the sync settings for either iOS device, and they are not connected via USB. It just won't stop making this sound.

A few folks experienced this on version 12.5.4.42, the one you're on. The easy fix is to turn off sounds for iTunes in Control Panel > Sound > Sounds. There are only 2 for iTunes. Alternatively, you can upgrade iTunes to version 12.5.5.5 and see if that fixes it for you.

I forgot all about Control Panel. Thanks for that.

Unfortunately I also updated iTunes app and now my entire music Library is gone. Still on the disk just can't play anything at all now.

I'm really starting to reconsider restarting a CD collection.

Lesson: do NOT update if all else is working fine. 😟

Make sure that the new version of iTunes knows where your media library is if it is not in the 'default' location. Worst case, roll back to version 12.5.4.42.

Thanks. I found one can hold down the Shift key when launching iTunes from the Start Menu. This prompts one to choose a library. All seems to be back to normal.

It appears that iTunes WiFi Sync is the culprit. At least in my testing. It seems to happen on the Mac version of iTunes as well. Updating to 12.5.5 did not solve it.
