The Top shelf is the very top row of items on an Apple Tv's main screen.
On a 2nd or 3rd Generation Apple Tv the top row changes depending on what section you have selected between Movies, Tv Shows, Music, Computers and Settings immediately below it.
If you have Movies selected, then it will have your rented moves as the first group on the left.
