AirPort Time Capsule - LaCie Thunderbolt 2 Raid

Hello Community,

I connected a LaCie 2big Thunderbolt2 Raid which is MacOs Journaled to the AirPort Time Capsule with USB.

On my MacBook Air i find the LaCie Raid immediately - but the Time Capsule does not display the Raid. A normal external USB plate is displayed.

Does someone has a solution ?

Thank you

OJ

Ref: AirPort base stations: About USB disks - Apple Support

"RAID Support

AirPort base stations work with most disks that are not software RAID volumes (no more than one volume per physical disk). If the disk is a self-contained RAID that presents itself to a computer as a single volume requiring no software support, then it may be supported. Consult the storage manufacturer for compatibility."

The USB on the TC is 2.0 and is much slower than USB2 on your computer..

Plugging a super fast thunderbolt raid to USB is a real waste. A standard USB drive will work equally as well at a fraction of the cost.

If you want to make better use of the LaCie disk you should plug it into a suitable Mac and share the drive with the network. You could buy a 2012 MacMini for example. Pretty cheap now from second hand sources.. and use it as a server.. you could even buy server extension for OSX although it is not necessary just to share it.

However from a future usage point of view you might do better selling the LaCie and buying a NAS .. Synology is the best of these IMHO for Mac environment.. but you can get LaCie one if you like the brand.
