Hi

Apple Watch Sport is one of the original Apple Watch models, which are referred to as Apple Watch (1st generation). Apple no longer sells new Apple Watch (1st generation) models.

Some differences that you may find helpful to note include:

  • Apple Watch (1st generation) models have a single core processor.
  • Both Series 1 and Series 2 models have a faster, dual-core processor.
  • Series 1 models otherwise have the same internal hardware features as 1st generation models.
  • Series 2 models also have:
    • A higher level of water resistance.

They can be worn during shallow water swimming as well as offering a greater level of water resistance during general daily wear

    • A brighter display (twice as bright as 1st generation and Series 1 models).
    • Built-in GPS:

They can record a route map during certain outdoor workouts, without needing to take the paired iPhone along and may also be able to use GPS to help locate a lost or stolen watch.

  • Series 1 and Series 2 models include watches with:
    • Aluminium cases and Ion-X glass (lighter than stainless steel models).
    • Stainless steel cases and sapphire crystal (which is more scratch resistant than Ion-X glass).

All Apple Watch models are able to run the latest software (watchOS) version.
