How do I decide what to set "move" on Apple Watch?

I have read about the actual "how to" set.. but my question is, how to decide what my number/move level should be. Do we select how much we typically move? I.e. I have a desk job and would be low movement level. Or do we pick the level we would like to start moving to have a higher goal?

Hi

When you first set up the Activity app, Apple Watch suggests an initial daily Move goal (an active calories / kilojoules target), which reflects your personal information (age, gender, height and weight) and general activity level.

On Monday of each week, the Activity app provides a Weekly Summary via the Notification Centre on your watch. At the foot of the summary, a new Move goal may be suggested based on your previous performance, along with the option to adjust the goal.

The Move goal can also be changed at any other time:

  • Open the Activity app on your watch:
    • When viewing the time on your watch face, tap on the Activity rings icon / complication.
    • Or go the Home screen (via a single press of the Digital Crown, when viewing the time on your watch) and tap on the Activity app icon (coloured rings).
  • Press firmly on the screen > tap on Change Move Goal > change the goal.

The default sets your goal based on height, weight, age etc. You can choose yours out of thin air or you can educate yourself on where yours should be based on lifestyle and goals.

I like to set my move goal as the calories I want to offset, to meet my caloric intake for the day. You can subtract your "move" calories from your consumed calories and eat more food.

If you download a food tracking app and link it with the Health App on your phone, you can track all your results there.
