From what I have read (Google is your friend) the most common cause is copying files back and forth. It happens primarily when someone is copying files back and forth from a Windows formatted Drive to a Mac Formatted Drive. (Is the external drive formatted in Windows Format - usually FAT or NTSC?)


Found this article about how to correct the error - though you have to be comfortable using Terminal and line commands for it to work.
