Recently deleted is in the albums section and only shows if it has photos in it - if it is empty it is hidden

What about the Trash? any Idea?

As Csound1 said, the "Recently Deleted" album replaced the Trash. But there are two important differences:

  1. The Recently Deleted album will be emptied automatically after a month. Then the photos will be gone. YOu have to check this album within a month to check for accidentally deleted photos.
  2. There is no second safety line. In iPhoto or aperture the iPhoto Trash or Aperture Trash would be moved to the system trash and you could recover deleted items from the system trash, but this is no longer the case. If you empty the Recently Deleted album, the photos will be gone and you can only recover them from your backup.
