Song name shows as Grouping name on iPhone

Hi all,

I recently have a weird problem with song names on my iPhone 7, iOS 10.2.

Some of my songs names show up as grouping name, which I set as country of origin, for no reason. For example instead of the song name, it shows up as US/UK/Japan, etc but when I play the song, it shows up as normal on the "Playing Now" panel. This doesn't affect all the songs in the album but some and majority of my albums are not affected by this.

My iTunes is very organized and I never purchased individual songs, only full album if I like the artist. I set grouping as country of origin, disc number, song number, and put full artworks. Being that kind of person myself, it annoys me to see unorganized list of my music.

Is anyone experiencing the same anomaly/problem like mine? Any solution?

If you go into the Song list in iTunes and select all of the items at once, select Song Info and yes to editing multiple items. A tick box will appear at the top of the panel stating Use Work and Movement, select this and clear the word Mixed from the Work field.

This will then clear the field and should resolve this issue. 😀

Forgot to add when I try to delete the work field, all of the titles change to the work field name. So I have to uncheck the box to get the titles to show correctly.

Always Mac (moved to new hardware many times) mp3/aac/aiff

If I check the box to convert before syncing - works as expected - no resyncs. I just got a 256GB X I don't want to compress anymore.

any way to edit the file directly and do a find/replace?

Many thanks! I was deep into trying to edit ID3 tags with an external editor when I, after many attempts, managed to assemble a Google search that produced your solution. So easy, and yet so unthinkable, which once again proves that Apple's idea of user-friendliness – designing things the way they think you want it, and not giving you the options – is not always the best choice.

Strange thing is that the ID3 tag editor didn't show these new "work and movement" tags.

I was having a similarly frustrating issue where on some mp3 songs, the songs, once transferred to iPad and iPhone, were showing song names as album title. So it appeared that I had 10 songs in one album with the same name. Your tip solved this. Thank you. :-)

Well, I should have checked first. This solution is not working. Followed it carefully, but on my iPhone, Nearly every song in my 16,000 plus library shows the grouping name rather than the title. Another car of Apple "fixing" something that wasn't broken. Now, I don't know what do.

Yep. When the tracks are playing, they display correctly for me, too. But shows grouping name for song title in the album track list view on iPhone. What's also strange is that it does not do this for all songs that I have in groups, just some.

Huge pain. Apple should have a better implementation of this. I NEVER want my group or genre name to be the "Work" ***?

Thank you so much, this has been driving me crazy. I've spent hours adjusting track titles and converting to various formats with no avail.

This was extremely useful, it also fixed my issue with my actual song titles not syncing correctly over to my iPhone, thanks.
