Help!! Super slow export fcpx

Help! I have a 1h20 minutes 1080p project and it used to export in 1 or 2 hours, but lately I added a little more contents and now it takes ages to export. The first 9% were fast but then overnight it only made % 10 to % 14. That's 2 hours per % !! And now I clicked File to drop down the menu and see the version and it's giving me the wheel and is not responding. Don't tell me I have to kill it and start it all over again??!

When I play the project, it plays flawlessly and all rendering was finished.

I was trying master file and h264.

I don't think I even have the hd space to export 1h20 min of 1080p to ProRes.

Now I rebooted, duplicated project as snapshot and am now exporting directly to Youtube. It's much faster and already at 37%. I can still fetch the .mov master file after export.

Watch & Pray I guess

or don't watch and check later ... better for sanity

There may a problem with your media.

Try exporting just a small section of the project, by marking an IN and an OUT point. See how it goes.

One other thing: how much free space on your boot drive? Even if your sharing for youtube, FCP X still has to generate a file on your mac to upload, so this does not mean you need less space - and a full disk is a big source of trouble.

21GB of free space on your system drive is very low you should clear some space.

The OS needs a significant amount of space in the boot drive for virtual memory, caches, sleepimage and more.

Also the space on yourmedia drive is running low, every drive should have at least 15-20% free space.

I would clear some space, felete render files and try a small export.

Delete the render files. You don't need to "keep them, just in case"!

FCP X keeps render files, even the ones that are not used anymore, and they accumulate. Terrible waste of space.

If they are needed later, they will be regenerated. You may even find that after you delete them your system will perform adequately, given the newly acquired breathing space.
