Apple iOS TV not available while offline??

If all possible, is there any way that I view downloaded movies and television shows, which I purchased from iTunes, on my iPad Air I while offline? I used to be able to do so up until the latest updates from iOS 10.2.1. I would like to know so I can view downloaded material offline.

iPad Air, iOS 10.2.1

sarah_s1,

I too have the issue ScottJG24 mentioned, but I think you misunderstood.

We have no problem adding iTunes purchases to our devices by downloading them. The issue is that since the 10.2.1 update we can no longer access these downloads via the "TV" app unless we have an internet connect.

When you try to open the "TV" app with no internet connection we see this message:

"TV" isn't available right now. Check your Internet connection and try again.

Prior to 10.2.1 we could use the "TV" app no problem without an internet connection, but obviously only to watch downloaded purchases we had on our device. Since 10.2.1 it seems you need an internet connect to even view downloaded content. I used to watch my downloaded purchases underground on the subway, but I no longer can.

Exactly.

A specific example, I rented and downloaded 2 movies to my iPad Pro to watch on a flight recently. They were there in my library under the TV app, while I was connected to WiFi.

However, when I got on the plane, and went to access the movies, the TV app just showed a white screen, and said it needed to be connected to the internet. The option to click on the library icon in the bottom left wasn't there, because the app itself didn't load anything, and gave the error message listed in the post above.

We cannot be the only people with this issue. It would appear to me, that apple needs to have an offline mode for the TV app, which just shows the library option, when you are offline. The fact that the screen is white, and nothing loads/is available to select is a problem, because you cannot access your content that is on the device.

A quick way to replicate the problem is to launch TV on an iPhone or iPad and look at the library. Then put the exact same device in airplane mode, and try to launch the app. You'll see exactly what we are talking about.

Huge issue, as this has ramifications for road trips with the kids (who cannot watch movies stored on the device itself) because our kids iPads are WiFi only.

Please tell me this bug is going to be fixed ASAP.

There is another thread addressing this issue, and the suggested fix (from Apple support, apparently) is to delete and reload the app.

I, too, have had this problem and it is not consistent. Sometimes it works just fine, and sometimes not. It doesn't seem to matter whether I have a video on pause, or am opening a new (downloaded) video to watch. It works and doesn't work randomly under all conditions.

So I will follow that advice, but reserve the right to wait and see if the fix really fixes the problem. (fingers crossed).

Immediate Edit: I just deleted the app and downloaded it painlessly, but be warned ALL the videos you may have previously downloaded will now need to be downloaded again.
