Why does final cut pro speed up videos I import

I imported an MP4 into Final Cut Pro X and for some reason the footage is sped up (the video and audio) which is causing a lot of problems! I tried importing the file again and it does the same thing. Is there any way to avoid that so the file stays at the speed and duration it is meant to be? Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks

The clip frame rate is 24fps.

What is the project frame rate? 25fps? That slight difference would account for the speed up.

Try creating a new project matching the clip settings. Click "Use custom settings" and then choose 720p and 24fps.

I expect that should fix it. Even so, I would not expect the clip to be automatically sped up, even in a 25fps project.

You need to give detailed information about the file codec, frame rate, etc.

Does it play in normal speed in Quicktime Player?

Where do you see it sped up? In the browser? In a project timeline? What is the project frame rate?

Open one of those clips in Quicktime Player, press command-I to open the Movie Inspector, post a screenshot.

Select the project in FCP X browser, open the Inspector's info tab, post a screenshot.
