QuickTime, how do I mute video on my laptop ?

Hello there,

I need to remove the audio from my videos uploaded to my laptop MacbookPro, (2010) running Sierra from my Android phone (OnePlus3t). With my previous phone (Motorola) I was able to mute (remove the audio) the video on the phone but it seems I can't do that on my new phone. I take videos of properties and need them to be without background noise.

Is it possible with QuickTime to remove the audio or is there another application on my Mac I can use ?

Thanks in advance !!

MacBook Pro, macOS Sierra (10.12.1), 17" Screen

Good Afternoon BillabongDominic,

Welcome to the Support Communities!

I understand you are looking for an easy way to remove the audio from the videos you are taking with your Android phone. I would suggest trying this in iMovie. With a little practice, it will take you about five minutes to:

1) Import the video clip into iMovie
2) Create a new project and drag the video clip into it.
3) Right-click on the video clip and choose Detach Audio
4) Select the resulting audio track and press the Delete key on your keyboard.
5) Export the file from the Share menu. Share > File

I'll include the relevant iMovie for Mac User Guide sections below to help you get started:

iMovie User Guide - Import media on your Mac

iMovie User Guide - Create a new movie

iMovie User Guide - Detach audio from a clip in your movie

iMovie User Guide - Export a QuickTime file

Hopefully, this workflow will help when you need to have videos of your properties without the background noise.

Enjoy your day!

Good morning BillabongDominic,

iMovie is an application that is bundled with your MacBook Pro and should be tied to your Apple ID. First, do a quick search in Spotlight to make sure you don't have the application installed. If you don't find it, then open the App Store application on your Dock. In the menu bar at the top of window, click Store > Sign In (if you are not signed in yet), or Store > View My Account. Sign in with your Apple ID and password, then select the Purchases tab at the top of the window. You should see iMovie 10 in the list. Click the Download or Install button to the right of it.

If you don't see the iMovie application, check to see if it has been Hidden. If it was deleted from your system, you can reinstall it. See the resources below.

macOS Sierra: Reinstall apps that came with your Mac

Take care.
