Automatic Ear Detection only works on one of the AirPods

My right AirPod's Automatic Ear Detection gets to be faulty every other week.

  • no connection feedback sound
  • music not stopping when I take it out of my ear,
and also if I take the other one out of my ear and put it back it won't resume the music
  • etc.

I know the (temporary) solution for this: reseting the AirPods works for another week (also, it's just enough to repair, don't have to reset).

The question is, if anybody else has this recurring issue too? Maybe you could also fix it somehow?

Notes: I usually use only one of them (meetings, phone calls during driving, etc.)

Hello,

This issue is a recurring problem for some people and today I will try and help you. Apple have an article about this issue but I will also try to help you.

Automatic Ear Detection

By default, AirPods sense when they're in your ear and receive the audio from your device. AirPods also pause and resume playback when you remove one of your AirPods, or stop playback—and won't resume—when you remove both. When you have Automatic Ear Detection on and you're not wearing your AirPods, audio plays through your device's speakers.

When you turn off Automatic Ear Detection, these features are off and all audio plays to your AirPods whether or not you're wearing them.

I would advise you to restart your AirPods and then click on Bluetooth>______'s AirPods>Automatic Ear detection.

Hope this helped🙂

Thanks,

I thought checking the settings is like a 0th step, so I didn't mention that.

"reseting the AirPods works for another week (also, it's just enough to repair, don't have to reset)"

Also, I didn't have this issue since iOS 10.3 beta 2/3. I will update the question accordingly in a month, if the issue seems to be fixed.

Edit: your answer is helpful (and _is the right answer_ for 99% of the users), so as I marked. 🙂

If you are still on the beta, I suggest you update your iPhone to the public release. The next step if the troubleshooting provided fails is to make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple store to have the AirPods examined by Apple. They will explain your options from there.

Well, you did not mention that, but made sure you mentioned the beta in your following response. I guess my question now is, are you still experiencing a problem after reading your edit to the other post? If so, and you have updated to the general release of iOS 10.3, and tried the troubleshooting, then your final step would be the support I recommended.
