I still cannot have sound on my U28E590D Samsung UHD monitor. In System Preferences Sound, I did select my HDMI screen in the ouput tab, but I still have no sound (my monitor is not on mute and volume slider shows a medium level ). I am running MacOS Sierra 10.12.3. Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Model U28E590D does not have built in speakers, so you need to attach your own speakers to the "headphone" jack. The manual was very vague on this point, even the troubleshooting section for "There is no sound" doesn't ask "did you plug in a pair of speakers or headphones?".😐
I recently purchased this model, I have yet to get sound working after testing it on multiple devices. Those devices include a Mac Pro (Late 2013), MacBook Pro (Mid 2012), Lenovo P50s and an Xbox One (original edition). I've tried the HDMI and mini DisplayPort cables and the DisplayPort 1.1 and 1.2 settings on the monitor. Since I have 30 days to return this monitor I think I'll take advantage of that.
