Image Capture now gives error: -9912

I have been using Image Capture for years to get photos off of SD cards.

I recently upgraded to Sierra v 10.12.3. Now every time I try to import photos I get this error box:

User uploaded file

The image names change with a change in the card. It's always a -9912 error.

I always receive this error but the images all import where I had intended them to go.

Any thoughts as to what could be causing it?

Thanks!

Hello RoyalT3,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems you are experiencing an issue with Image Capture when importing from a SD card and getting an error message with error -9912. You can figure out if unexpected behavior is related to a user file or setting by trying to reproduce the issue from another user account. This process includes creating a new user account, logging in to it, and testing for the issue.

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

If this issue doesn't occur in the new user, your next step is to use safe mode to start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks, delete system cache files, verifies your startup disk, and attempts to repair directory issues if needed. Log into your user account and test the issue while in safe mode and then restart normally and test the issue again.

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up

Let us know the results of this test. We'll help you get through this. Cheers!

Thanks for replying, RoyalT3, and that additional info, it really helps! If you haven't tested in safe mode, please try that as well. But if the issue still happens after testing in safe mode and then restarting normally, you can make a backup of your personal data and put a fresh copy of macOS on your Mac using OS X Recovery mode, as that will overwrite these system files causing the issue. Then test your issue with Image Capture again.

Sterling,

Thanks so much for your response!

I finally had a chance to try it while logged in as a different user. I received the same error. I did notice this time that it appears to have a problem deleting the images from the card as I have the "Delete after import" selected. I did it once accidentally without that selected, and didn't receive the error.

What next?

Thanks Becky_s22,

I just rebooted in Safe Mode. I tried the SD card but I guess whatever services are needed to know there is a card don't load in Safe Mode. I then let it reboot normally and tried it again. I received the same error as started in the first post.

I don't know when or if I will have an opportunity to do a clean install so that isn't an option at this time. I guess I'll just need to live with it.
