itunes sync with 4th generation iPod

I have a 4th Gen iPod and downloaded iTunes to my computer (latest version). I am running Windows 10. Now, I have music that I want to put on my iPod but iTunes will not recognize to sync. I get a message saying, "An iPod has been detected but could not be identified properly. Disconnect and reconnect the iPod." I do that, several times, and it pops up with the same response. I know I have a fairly older version, but I only got it because I wanted to be able to use bluetooth for my headset and wi-fi for pandora (which I can't even download) while I am working out.

Assistance is needed.

Reboot both computer and the iPod, then unlock the iPod before connecting to the computer and try again. See also iOS device not showing in iTunes for Windows. It may help to reset the driver.
