Apple Watch pinging functions clarification.

I just got back from driving and was about to go out on a bike ride so started to get changed. In the process of changing and looking for earphones I misplaced my phone (IPhone 5s). Im 99% sure I had my phone on me when I entered the house but can't find it anywhere. I went to get my Apple watch and use the ping feature and after clicking the icon it said connected (as it wasn't before) and had the green cloud icon. Correct me if I'm mistaken but this means both my phone and watch are both connected on the same wifi network and bluetooth is not available (was switched off on my phone to save battery). Anyway, after connecting I clicked the ping button and it said pinging, which should cause the phone to flash and make a noise, however I couldn't hear or see anything throughout the house.

In the past I've had this where the ping doesn't do anything but back then I managed to find it by myself and I dont believe it had bluetooth on then either. My phone is on silent but I dont believe this makes a difference when pinging.

Unfortunately I dont have find my Iphone set up because I've never lost it for more than 10 mins.I haven't been able to find it after looking for an hour now and have also managed to misplace my watch so not in the best position now. Hopefully if these questions are answered and I find my watch as that is 100% in the house I can find my phone as well.

Thanks for any help

Hi

The green cloud icon indicates that your Apple Watch has connected to a known Wi-Fi network as a fallback, in the absence of being able to connect to your iPhone via Bluetooth.

Your Apple Watch is able to do this even when your iPhone is not connected to the same Wi-Fi network, including when your iPhone is turned off.
