How to set up Apple Music for me and my wife

We signed up for Apple Music family plan( I'm set as the organizer) and we are not separate in the music that we choose. Example is my wife likes country and chooses several country songs and they show up on my list of recent songs. How do we separate our phones so we get our own recommendations?

Thanks for your question. You are absolutely correct. You and your wife should have separate accounts in Apple Music for the personalized "For You" section of the app where you choose what genre of music you want to hear, you "love" or dislike suggestions, and creating your own playlists.

So, the key to all of this is that when you signed up for your Family Sharing plan in iTunes, you invited your wife to join the family, and your wife used her own Apple ID (which is an email address), which is different from yours. This gives her a different iCloud Music Library than yours.

So, the first thing to do is check to make sure your wife is signed into her own unique Apple ID for both the iTunes Store (Settings > iTunes & App Store) and iCloud (Settings > iCloud) on her device.

Then, as the organizer, check your Family Sharing settings, to make sure you invited your wife to join Family Sharing under her own Apple ID.

Next, as the organizer, check the settings you have for the Apple Music Membership.

Finally, on your wife's iOS device, open the Music app and tap Already a member? and sign in with her own unique Apple ID. She should see a message like "Your family has joined Apple Music" and should be prompted to enable iCloud Music Library on her device.
