MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009) maximum memory

Hello my fellow Macbookers. I own a 2009 macbook pro 13", and it states the maximum memory to use is 8gb which i have now. I was just wondering if any one has dared to try 16gb? Only reason i ask is because my friend owns a 2010 which states the same it only handles 8gb but was able to achieve 16gb into his laptop and its recognized. So my question again has anyone achieved 16gb in there Macbook pro 2009 as well?

That's asking a lot for a 2009 machine. I assume he used to 8gm dimms? His machine may be expandable to 16gb and yours is not. I would check to see if yours is expandable before investing and sticking all that memory in it. You could end up frying your board if not.

I looked up both of the specs of our laptops and they where identical thats the only reason i asked. I was just hoping someone else ventured this upgrade before and could verify if it worked or not. But thanks for the reply.

When the model was designed/built by Apple, it was rated as being able to use 8gB, because those RAM chips were readily available. After release, other RAM vendors used upgraded RAM amounts. Apple does not retroactively change their specs when new RAM chips become available.
