does the macbook pro have any trade in value

I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012).

2.5 GHz Intel Core i5

If I decide to buy a new macbook, does my old one have any trade in value?

The other options include a local craiglist ad or other possibilities may

include (after restoring MacBook/Pro to original OS X & de-personalize)

if the independent Apple authorized reseller does take trade-ins -- or if

they may consider consignments. Be careful if selling to unknowns &

do not give away personal information. Meet up in public place, and if

they can afford the computer, they should be able to pay you real $$.

Also note the 'recycle program' may not yield anywhere near market price.

Ask questions if considering that route. Some buyers won't give much due

to the profit margin they expect. ~ Your best bet is to re-sell private, locally.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂

About the only places where a previously owned product may be accepted

(or not) as partial trade, toward a new or other in-stock product, could be

through an independent authorized Apple reseller who may also re-sell a

line of previously-owned products in their store.

~ In short, not at official Apple Stores ... to generally answer to your question.

Official Apple Stores do not sell previously-owned nor do they accept trades.

Note online resellers, ebay, amazon stores, and apple vendors who have their

own independent sales (not Apple owned) ~ to check on regional asking price.

An official 'refurbished' Apple product is not considered 'used' because it

has undergone considerable effort to re-new it, even if it wasn't turned on;

any new item sold & returned to Apple unopened is then sent to refurbished.

Though official Apple Stores may occasion to have Apple refurbished stock

in some store locations, they do not accept used equipment nor trades.

(When I talked to an Apple online store employee about returning a new Mac

that I was reconsidering, unopened, they said all returns undergo refurbished

processing. Even if never turned on since leaving the official shipping center.)

Because the model you have is no longer being made and does not appear

in the Apple Store (online) it may be worth more to someone who wants to

upgrade a portable themselves. Memory and drives can be upgraded easily

and the optical super-drive is a good accessory. This model does not have

a higher resolution 'Retina' display; and has older processor/GPU series.

These sell anywhere from about $650 to $800 in mint condition if one looks

into ebay sales, amazon resellers, and any local authorized independent

Apple reseller (usually those with on-site service) show they hold retail value.

Don't expect official Apple Store online or actual Apple Store to accept trades.

Good luck & happy trails! 🙂
