HP Scanjet 300 driver for Mac OS X 10.12.3

I have purchased HP Scanjet 300 flatbed scanner. While following the instructions to install the driver, I get the message "Invalid Format". It appears that this driver is supported by OS X 10.11 or its earlier versions. HP Easy Scan Software also fails to run this scanner. Is there any other way of using this scanner with my operating system?
