"Do Not Disturb" doesn't redirect to voicemail

When I have do not "Do Not Disturb" activated then callers aren't redirected to my voicemail; they just get beeping sounds. I get a notification to say that I have a missed call, but there's nothing in my voicemail. (Voicemail works fine when my phone is off / airplane mode).

How do I get callers redirected to my voicemail when I have DND activated?

I'm using ios 10.2.1 and my iphone SE says that this is the most to to date version. I've tried resetting the phone but with no luck.

Hi paulestar,

Your question surprised me a bit because I was not aware at the moment that this wasn't a thing.

However, I will explain a little bit how "Do not disturb" works and what you can do to get calls from important people.

The "Do not disturb" mode is made for when you will go to sleep, your phone will not play any notification sound, light up the screen or vibrate when you are being called or get a text message.

If you do want to receive any calls or notifications from certain people you can mark contacts as "favorites".

Then, you can go to Settings > Do not disturb > Allow calls from and select the "favorites" tab.

Calls and text's will now not be ignored from people that you have marked as "favorites"

Hope this helps and you understand what I mean

Hi Milan,

Many thanks for your reply (and good English!) I understand that "Do Not Disturb" silences my phone, but I thought that incoming calls would go to voicemail? I did a few more tests and found that if my screen is locked then it goes to voicemail, but it's when the screen is on then the caller just gets the beeps and no chance to leave me a voicemail.

The DND setting is on "Silence always" so in theory "incoming calls and notifications will be silenced while iphone is either locked or unlocked".

So it seems strange that I get 2 different reactions from the DND feature depending on my screen lock status.

I've recently had some battles with my network provider about some incorrect voicemail settings, so I'm wondering whether it's something to do with that. I'm about to jump ship and change carrier, maybe the DND will be better then...

Update: I've changed my network provider and the DND feature now works as expected!

Previously I was with a virtual network provider and now I'm with one of the main network operators. (Even my voicemail button works now too!)

Glad you got it resolved. I have been going to guess it was a carrier issue. Thanks for posting back to let people know the solution.
