iBook not loading fully

I'm using a new MacBook Pro and an older iPad mini to read iBooks. On both systems, a few books purchased from iBooks will not download fully. I've tried deleting them and reloading form the cloud library but they are still not opening, they'll freeze or I'll get a few chapters then nothing...Any ideas on how to correct this problem?
