Apple Watch contact names not showing

The following steps may help:

Reset your sync data:

• On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > General > Reset > tap once on Reset Sync Data.
• The process will run in the background / invisibly to you, so allow some time afterwards for it to complete.

If the issue persists, next restart both your iPhone and your watch:

• Close the Watch app and Contacts app (if open) on your iPhone:
  • Double-click the Home button, then swipe up on each app preview.
• Turn both devices off together, then restart your iPhone first:
  • Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
  • Restart your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Before following the steps in my previous reply, it may help to follow these additional steps:

On your iPhone, in the Contacts app, check that there is a single contact card for each of your contacts and that each card contains that contact's full name and phone number, along with their email address.

If you have contacts from multiple sources and multiple entries for the same person have not been linked automatically (such that they are shown as a unified contact, with "Unified Info"), then manually link those contacts by following the instructions here:

• Hide duplicate contacts

Then return to the steps in my previous reply.

I am having this issue too. I recently purchased the Series 3 and it is running WatchOS 4.2.3. The "solution" that was provided hasn't worked for me. I've verified that my contacts have only one contact card with all of their information on it and I reset the sync data. Nothing has changed. Has anyone else found alternative solutions?

Thank you. Worked for me on iPhone X and Watch Series 2. Group message of two members plus me showed one name and one telephone number. Looks fine after "Reset Sync Data" operation.🙂

Hi I am still having problems with the Apple Watch series 3 PLEASE HELP

Unfortunately all of these and still nothing worked for me. My text messages still display only numbers and my contacts won’t sync as well as my pictures.

I’m having the same issue, and it’s hapoened on its own all of a sudden. When I press reset sync data, it doesn’t even do anything. It’s a dead button for me. SOMEONE HELP!

I had the same issue with my new apple watch 3 GPS/Cellular. I turn it off and on and it fixed the problem. Why it would do that, I have no idea, but at the same time, my imessage on my Macbook quit sending messages, it would receive, but not send, so I powered down my Mac and rebooted and it solved that problem as well. Weird! Hope this update helps.

After I posted this, a new WatchOS update came out. When I updated to that (4.3), this issue went away for me. If you haven't updated yet, I would try that.
