Contact names not showing in messages

Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with my messages app on my macbook pro. While my phone displays all the contact names perfectly, only some of them is shown correctly on the messages app on my macbook. They are shown with phone numbers only. This appeared one day out of the blue. Yesterday everything was working like a charm! No changes made to either the phone or the mac as far as I know.

All contacts all intact on my phone, but some of the contacts are not present in the macbook address lists. I have tried to add and remove all the accounts info with contacts on the mac in order for them to resync without any result.

Funny thing is: When I spotlight search for a contact thats missing in the messages app and the contacts app - I can find the contact card with all the correct information on my mac but I'm not able to reveal the file in finder or open the file in the contacts app.

I thought perhaps this could be solved with repairing file permissions like the old days, but this option has been removed in Sierra both from the disk utility and command line.

Any tips, anyone??

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12.3), null

Hi,

The Contacts app is not displaying anything kept on your Mac.

It is showing you what it can read from the Sync that is set up.

In the Contacts App > Preferences > Accounts it should list just one active service such as iCloud or Google or Yahoo (other services are available 😉)

This should match what the iPhone is using (Settings > Contacts also check iCloud is set to allow Contacts to sync if that is the method).

Compare what you can see in the apps on both devices compared to the service web site such as www.icloud.com then Contacts (this is where the actual Card is).

Both the Mac and the iPhone have options to save to the device (as in ON My Mac) if you Unsync the app.

This will keep a card on your Mac.

It would be useful to know where this card is being stored.
