How do I set a 4-digit passcode in iOS 10?

I have an iPhone 6s with iOS10 and my phone started prompting me with a "Passcode Requirement". I had a 4-digit passcode, but it will now only let me enter a 6-digit passcode. I want to go back to the 4-digit passcode (for a variety of reasons), but when I go to "Passcode Options" under "Set Passcode" like it suggests on the Help page, the only option is for a "Custom Alphanumeric Code" (which also has to be 6-digits). How do I go back to the 4-digit passcode?

Do you have an employer exchange email account installed, or any MDM profiles installed? Employers can use exchange services to push out their own security certificates to enforce their security model (e.g. make a password mandatory, or make a minimum length password mandatory). The same thing applies to any device under a Managed Deployment Profile.

If you've deleted any profiles and/or any email accounts from your employer or company, then you should have access to all default iOS settings again. You may need to reset the phone though - just hold the power and home buttons down until you see the Apple boot logo on the screen, then let go and let it finish restarting. See if the settings are back after that.
