Can't use playlists on Apple TV without Apple Music subscription

I decided to cancel my Apple music subscription and simply purchase songs instead.

Unfortunately I was shocked to discover the Music App on the Apple TV doesn't allow you to create or view any playlists without an Apple Music subscription.

I can individually select tracks and add them to play next or play later, but the option to add them to a playlist is now missing. There is a playlist page in the menu, but there is no way to add anything to it. This renders the Music app on the AppleTV effectively useless.

I don't understand why Apple would exclude such a fundamental feature.

This lack of attention to detail is the same in other apps as well, such as Photos... where you can't even sort your photos... and to make matters worse they are sorted the wrong way by default (oldest at the top so you have to scroll down to see recent images).

I'm seriously regretting my purchase.

I was already aware of this, but unfortunately it would require my MacBook Pro to be on all the time in order to listen to my music. It's also a very complex and inconvenient solution to something that could easily be solved by simply allowing playlists to be created (or synced) on the Apple TV without requiring an Apple Music subscription. This should be a very trivial thing for Apple's software developers to implement.

Hello The Culture,

I understand you’ve been unable to make or load playlists on your Apple TV since canceling your Apple Music membership and I have some information that may help.

Apple TV uses iCloud to sync your playlists, but if they are no longer available via Apple Music you can still access them using Home Sharing on your devices. This will allow you to sync the playlists from your computer in your home to your Apple TV. Have a look a the article below to learn how to set up Home Sharing.
