Time Machine is already included with your Mac. All you need to do is use it.
If your Mac hard disk is having problems, perhaps it needs to be replaced. It is considered preferable to create a backup prior to needing it.
I agree. Stellar Volume Optimizer (SVO) is irresponsible. The function of disk recovery is to get the hard drive running quickly - i.e. Diskwarrior. I'm currently running SVO and it appears HALF-WAY ⚠ through in an iNode error search after 10 hours ⚠ Twice longer than it would take this system to be recovered from Timemachine. I'm now buying the Diskwarrior upgrade, which is what I should have done.
.. continued ... After 24 hours I quit SVO, because it hadn't finished error checking and disk repairs could have taken a very long time. I conclude for Mac (not PC) SVO is irresponsible because it is potentially dangerous - quitting (or e.g. power fails) in disk repair mode can trash the disk. Diskwarrior are no longer the company of old: slow on processing upgrade purchases (up to 2 days). Sadly, reinstalling from Timemachine is the quickest option. IMO emergency disk repair = Timemachine.
Quick option: Boot from a clone backup, erase a drive then clone it back.
If you don't have a clone backup it's time to start. Just like a seat belt and an air bag protect you in different ways when driving, you need both Time Machine and a clone for full protection.
Create a Clone backup:
A clone is an exact bootable copy of your internal drive. Unlike standard copying of all files to another drive, the clone software copies hidden files along with other in-use files that are not available when you copy over files to another drive.
Software used to Clone: You can create your clone using CCC demo or SuperDuper non registered version.

Disk Warriorand Disk Utility are all you need.
I would say if you have a good backup strategy, Disk Utility is all you need.
If you have "hard disk problems" with Sierra that Disk Utility won't fix you probably have a hardware problem.

Agree with most of what's already been said: Disk Utility should be able to repair most problems. If problems can't be repaired or keep recurring, the cause is likely a failing hard drive.
What exactly are your issues with the HDD? Normally there is no 3rd party software needed in order to maintain the hard disk.
Stellar VO doesn't 'cost less than $59'. It seems to be the same price more or less as DIsk Warrior.

.. to conclude the mini-saga, Diskwarrior payment processing time took 1.2 days (slow), but the app took ½ hour to fix a corrupted hard drive.
