Good evening KQwerty,

To change the font/appearance of footnotes, you would have to do that in the application you are using. For example, in Pages, you can select text and choose the Footnote style. You can create a master template of the way you want all of your documents to look. Applications like Microsoft Word have similar customization options.

Take a look at the resource below:

macOS Sierra: Format text in documents

Use styles

In a document, choose Format > Styles or Format > Font > Styles, then do any of the following in the Styles pane:

  • Apply a favorite style to selected text: Select Favorite Styles, choose a style from the pop-up menu that appears, then click Apply.

  • Apply a style used in the document: Select Document Styles, click the Forward or Back button until you see the style you want to use, then click Apply.

  • Save the style of selected text as a favorite: Click Add to Favorites, then type a name. If you want it to use the same font, spacing, and tabs as the selected text, select the checkboxes.

  • Search a document for text formatted with a style: Select Document Styles, click the Forward or Back button until you see the style you want to search for, then click Select. Set options to broaden or narrow your search, then click Select.

Pages for Mac: Create a custom Pages template

Enjoy your day!
