Traveling to different time zone

Does the Apple Watch Series 2 time display automatically change when one enters (or lands) in a new time zone as one's iPhone does? Does the iPhone have to be on? If so, then to use or display dual time I assume one activates the home time zone from the World Clock?

Hi

When travelling between time zones, the time on your Apple Watch automatically updates (when your watch and iPhone are connected) to reflect the same time zone as your iPhone.

If your iPhone has adjusted automatically, but the change has not yet been reflected on your Apple Watch:

Restart both devices, turning both off together, then restarting your iPhone first:

The World Clock complication on Apple Watch can be used to display the time for any location that has added to the list in the World Clock tab in the Clock app on your iPhone. Some watch faces support more than one World Clock complication.

To customise your watch face with World Clock information, follow the steps here:

Does the iPhone have to be on?

The iPhone needs to be on for the watch to be able to switch to a different time zone.

If you do not want to turn your iPhone on in the destination country to avoid roaming fees, you could manually switch the time zone of the iPhone to the destination timezone right after take off, before you put the watch and the iPhone into flight mode. This way the watch will already show the correct time zone when you are landing at your destination and you can keep the iPhone turned off.
