Insert a special character into Photoshop CC textbook?

I am trying to insert a heart shape special character into a text box in Photoshop CC but I cannot get it to work.

I have tried most of the solutions I have seen in previous discussions but nothing has worked, it either inserts just a black square or I get an error message saying invalid.

Does anyone know how to do this? TIA

MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016), macOS Sierra (10.12.3)

No copying and pasting that character does not work, it just shows a black square in the text box.

I have tried copying and pasting from a text file like notes or Word and it either shows a black square or an error message. I also tried to find the Character and symbols keyboard on my MacBook and copy/pasting from there and that doesn't work either, I just get the same result. I also saw someone say the fonts have to be the same when inserting a special character but that doesn't make any difference either.

I really wasn't sure if it was something about the Photoshops settings or my Macbook keyboard as I have tried different solutions from both Adobe forums and here and nothing has worked, but I may post in their forums as well.
