Add GIFs to iMessages

sometimes I can add GIFs to an iMessage directly from the iMessage app in OS X Sierra on my new MacBook Pr and sometimes I can't. How do I make it happen I can add a GIF directly without having to go to a web set and drag it in?

thanks

Hi,

Messages on the Mac was created by adding the iMessages Account to iChat.

iChat was at version 6 at the time and Messages continued the Numbering becoming version 7 in OS X 10.8

The way of adding a picture of any sort was to drag it from the Finder window that is open to the Text Entry Field and when sent it is in it's own balloon.

At one time text added at the same time was included in the same balloon but this does not happen in later versions.

Basically you have two apps that have the same name on two different OSes that happen to be compatible in sending and receiving iMessages.

It's a bit like Office on a Mac and PC both can read Word documents.

There are slight differences at certain points which can mean some things are done differently.

However even though I have never used this Keystroke they is this in the Buddies Menu

Pics are Files as far as the app is concerned and it works in an iMessages chat.

Hi,

You should be able to drag anything on your computer to the Text Entry Field on the Messages app's Main window to send it.

It does not have to be visible in another app.

Correction.

The line should read:-

However even though I have never used this Keystroke there is this in the Buddies Menu

Thank you for responding

I looked in the link. It says a lot about using iMessages but I can't find anything about adding GIFs. I know how to add emogis, but sometimes I can add a GIF and sometimes I can't and can't figure out what I do to be able to add the GIF in the app itself. I do know how to find the GIF in a safari page and drag it in. I want to do it from the app itself

Thank You

Carl

OK. Maybe I've discovered the answer. I see that I can add GIFs to my iMessages easily from inside the iMessage app in my iPhone 7+. Maybe that's my confusion. I can add directly from inside my phone but not my MacBook Pro with Sierra? If that is wrong if someone could tell me or point to a link that will tell me how to do it I would appreciate it!😕

thanks
