How can I get my Canon Scanner (CanoScan 8800F to work with El Capitan on a Macbook Air 2016?
I have hundreds of slides but cannot add the scanner to my "Printers and Scanners" in System Preferences.
I need some serious help

The scanner needs software called a driver to work with the computer. I just visited Canon's website http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan _8800f#DriversAndSoftware and it appears to me that the last driver they have available was for the Mavericks OS...which came out well before Yosemite and El Capitan.
You might want to contact Canon and see if they plan to issue new drivers for the CanoScan 8800 soon.

Have you tried Applications/Image Capture?
